August 6-8, 2010 Forest Home Camp, Forest Falls, CA
Sign Language Factory is happy to announce their 17th Silent Weekend! Our 2010 weekend will be for ALL levels, Beginner thru Interpreter, with workshops appropriate for all! Don't miss out on this fun-filled weekend!
You will have a unique opportunity to learn, build your self confidence, practice your sign language skills (AND earn CEUs if you are an RID Certified Interpreter) as you socialize with our deaf friends who come to our Silent Weekend camp. They are there to encourage and help you throughout the weekend. You won't want to miss it!
Workshops will be provided throughout the weekend. Remember...this is a silent weekend. Workshops will NOT be voiced. Everyone is to turn off their voices and be immersed into ASL for the entire weekend! It's sure to be a challenging & rewarding experience for all levels of signers, 18 and older! (Special waivers may be accepted for students under 18. Please contact our office for more info).
After a morning of some great workshops on Saturday, our camp has some awesome opportunies to experience during your free time! You can enjoy the adventure of the zipline, or go swimming in the lake! Feel like climbing a rock wall or hiking? They have that, too! It'll be a time to get to know some new friends, or hang with some old.
Or perhaps you'd rather just relax and enjoy the beautiful, serene surroundings, or take a nap! You'll have some free time to do that, too!
Experience some great comraderie as you explore and enjoy!
This year, we have upgraded our cabins and we are right next to the lake!
Your accommodations will be dorm style cabins, sleeping up to 5 people per cabin with bunkbeds.
Each cabin has it's own shower and private toilet. If you are coming with a friend or friends, you may request to be housed in the same cabin.
Registration will begin at 4pm on Friday afternoon, however, you are free to arrive early to enjoy the grounds prior to registration. Dinner will be provided and served at 7pm. Our first workshop will begin at 8:15pm Friday evening. Saturday, your day will be filled with a variety of workshops, ASL games, and other fun activities as well as a deaf
panel discussion and a special "Nobody Famous!" comedy show by none
other than Bill Rennie himself! Sunday, we will
wrap up with a short, non denominational church service (optional) all
in ASL. Departure will be at 11am on Sunday.
If you are flying in for the weekend, the closest airport is Ontario. You would need to rent a car and the camp is about a 40 miles from the airport. The other two closest airports are Orange County (SNA) (about 65 miles to camp) and LAX (about 90 miles to camp), HOWEVER, due to Friday evening traffic, it could take you as long as 3-6 hours to travel from those airports, depending on what time of day you arrive. The earlier you arrive, the better traffic conditions will be. Check each to see what would be most convenient for you. Or contact Bonnie at 714-776-2551 to discuss your options.
The cost of the weekend is as little as $189 if you take advantage of the early-bird registration. Your fee covers a $20 non-refundable registration fee, lodging, five meals (Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch & dinner and Sunday breakfast) plus all the workshops and activities for the entire weekend. Don't delay! Register TODAY! Don't miss out on this great opportunity to be immersed in ASL for an entire weekend at this great price!
